Privacy Policy

The Trade Me CompareMe Chrome Extension is designed with a strict "privacy-first" and local-only philosophy. We believe that your search history, vehicle preferences, and housing candidates are entirely personal. Your saved decision workspace stays in your browser. We do not operate a service that receives your saved listings, notes, decisions, or reports.

1. Information Handled by the Extension

When you browse Trade Me listings and explicitly choose to save a listing by clicking the "Save to Compare" button, the extension extracts only the following public listing details:

  • Listing Identifiers: The Trade Me Listing ID and URL.
  • General Info: Listing title, price, and ordered gallery image URLs.
  • Property Specs: Sale/rent mode, type, bedrooms, bathrooms, parking, floor/land area, ownership, sale method/date, availability, maximum tenants, description, address, and school information.
  • Motor Specs: Odometer mileage, body style, seats, fuel type, engine size, transmission, plate number, year, color, owners, energy economy, auction closing date, registration expiry, and WOF expiry.
  • Your Decision Workspace: Plain-text notes, Considering/Shortlisted/Ruled out statuses, requirements, sorting, comparison selections, differences-view preferences, and information visibility choices.

These fields are extracted dynamically from the webpage DOM and structured metadata elements of the listing pages you actively choose to save.

2. How We Store and Process Your Data

Extracted listing details and your workspace are processed on your device and stored in your browser using the chrome.storage.local Chrome API.

🔒 Absolute Local Storage Guarantee

We do not operate servers, remote databases, or tracking systems. Notes, statuses, and workspace preferences stay in your browser. Displaying listing images and fonts makes requests to their providers. Manual price or photo refresh reads the original Trade Me listing; opening a listing or map navigates to that provider. PDF and CSV reports are generated locally and downloaded to your chosen location; PDF preparation may request listing photos. Notes and report contents are not uploaded to a report service. There is no remote synchronisation of your saved decision data.

3. Third-Party Disclosures & Data Sharing

We do not receive or sell your saved workspace or report contents. Loading remote photos or fonts and refreshing a listing makes normal browser requests to those providers. Opening a listing or map takes you to that provider. Downloaded reports remain under your control.

  • No advertisement networks are integrated.
  • No telemetry, web beacons, or analytics scripts (such as Google Analytics) are loaded.
  • No background monetization platforms are included.

4. Justification of Required Permissions

To operate securely, the extension requests minimal permissions under Chrome's Manifest V3 standard:

  • storage: Required to save your selected listings locally so they persist across tabs, popups, and browser sessions.
  • *://*.trademe.co.nz/* matches: Used to inject the "Save to Compare" control on listing pages and read original Trade Me listings when you request a price or photo refresh.

5. User Rights and Data Control

You have full, immediate control over all data stored by the extension:

  • Individual Removal: You can delete any saved listing instantly by clicking the "Remove" or "Trash" icon in either the toolbar popup or the side-by-side comparison matrix.
  • Decision Metadata: Removing a listing deletes its notes, status, and selections. Ruling it out keeps this data for restoration. Confirmed Clear All resets listings, decisions, and workspace preferences.
  • Downloaded Reports: PDF and CSV files may include your notes when enabled. You control their sharing and must delete downloaded files separately from extension storage.
  • Complete Purge: Uninstalling the extension removes its saved workspace. Use confirmed Clear All to reset listings, decisions, and preferences. We do not keep remote backups; downloaded reports are separate files and are not removed by these actions.

6. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in extension features or Chrome Developer Program policies. Any revisions will be published immediately on this page and will include an updated "Last Updated" timestamp.
